Montemelino wine cellar is in Tuoro sul Trasimeno on the northern hills of Trasimeno Lake, between Umbria and Tuscany, at around 300 meters above sea level. The vineyard of about 8 hectares, is included in the territory of the “DOC Colli del Trasimeno”, a territory particularly suited to wine production for the favorable microclimate of the lake.
The farm has been conducted, since 1961, by Margret Etten Cantarelli and now by Sabina, her daughter, which is pursuing a job which has always involved the whole family.
The small and cozy winery is open to those who want to taste and buy the wines we produce (MON to SAT 9-12,30 15-19) . We also organize wine tasting tours for small groups, which include the visit to the vineyard, to the production and the tasting of all our wines matched with small appetizers. The whole visit takes around 90 minutes, booking is required. (read also this article >>> “Wine Tours at Trasimeno Lake“)
The red vines are prevalent Sangiovese Umbria and Trasimeno Gamay, typical grape of Trasimeno Lake and hills. Merlot and Pinot, international varieties, fit very well to the clay soil of the vineyard and give a quality production of the wine. A small part of the farm vineyard is planted with Cabernet, which optimally blends with Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo.
The grape varieties for white wines are Trebbiano Spoletino and Grechetto, according to the tradition of the place.
